Sometimes positive thinking propaganda makes me positively sick. Every year I hear all about peoples new year resolutions and how this year is going to be 'different'. Oliver Burkeman makes an excellent suggestion for handling new years resolutions.

If you've made any new year resolutions, steal a march on the rest of the world by abandoning them today, rather than waiting a week or two for the moment when everyone else's will inevitably collapse in a quagmire of failed hopes, self-reproach and packets of Pringles.

You could follow this link and read the rest of his advice for some realistic ideas on how to make a better life. Positivity is rarely helpful. No matter how bad your life is it can always get worse. Thinking positively won't protect you from the consequences of your actions. Being realistic is far more productive.
